China's first 20 MW electric compressor to serve the West-East gas pipeline

According to the latest news from PetroChina, the domestic 20 MW electric-driven compressor unit adopted by the second West-East Gas Pressure Station was put into commercial operation in Gaoling, in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and started its industrial application. Its main indicators have reached the international advanced level. This is the first domestic 20 MW electric drive compressor station put into commercial use.

Electric compressor unit is the "heart" of natural gas long-distance pipeline project. For a long time, only multinational corporations in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany have been able to design, manufacture and assemble engines in the world. The monopoly of technology and markets has led to a natural gas pipeline project with a total investment of hundreds of billions of dollars. Compressor investment accounts for about half of the total equipment cost.

In order to realize the localization of key equipment for long-distance pipelines, in September 2009, China established a research and development test center to conduct technical research as a major national science and technology project. PetroChina set up a major project entitled "Research on Key Technology of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project" and put in special funds. From the branch of West-East Gas Pipeline, led by 10 domestic electromechanical manufacturing key enterprises such as Shenke Group, jointly assumed 20 MW Level electric compressor unit, 30 MW combustion-compressor units and high-pressure large-diameter ball valve three major equipment development. After two and a half years of difficult research, the 20 MW electric compressor unit completed the first unit development on schedule. The three major components of large long-distance pipeline compressor, high-power inverter and super high speed direct-coupled motor passed the national appraisal, All indicators reached the international advanced level.

West Second Line Gaoling points gas station consists of 4 sets of 20 MW electric drive compressor units, is China's first 20 MW electric drive compressor unit industrial test station, is also the first set of domestic compressor station sample station. At present, four units of Gaoling gas station have operated safely for more than 600 hours, and their status remained stable.
