During the year this year, patients with severe mental illnesses in Beijing will be able to use psychotropic drugs in basic medicine for outpatient visits free of charge. It is understood that there are currently approximately 61,000 patients with 13 types of severe mental illness registered in Beijing. They generally need to take drugs for life.

Free drug coverage for 61,000 patients

Previously, patients with severe mental illness in Beijing have achieved free drug use. Yesterday, the person in charge of the Women and Children's Mental Health Department of the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau introduced that this year, the policy area is expected to cover 13 patients with severe mental illnesses, and these patients can use the psychiatric drugs within the scope of the basic drug list free of charge.

Patients with severe psychosis generally require lifelong medication, but most patients do not have a job and no source of income. According to relevant person in charge of the Municipal Health Bureau, there are currently approximately 61,000 people with severe mental illness registered in Beijing.

To simplify the free medication process

The person in charge said that after this group of people establish a free drug regime, each person can save about 100 yuan per month. For this reason, the government will invest 60 million yuan more each year. In the near future, the health department will also formulate specific implementation methods with related departments, and it is intended to simplify the process of free drug use.

In addition, this year the Municipal Health Bureau will also focus on promoting community and family rehabilitation for patients with severe mental illness.
