Samsung's medical applications for VR have always been very strong. Recently, VR Network was informed that Samsung is in a partnership with South Korean VR studio FNI and Gangnam Severance, one of the largest hospitals in Korea, to develop VR-based mental health clinic applications for Samsung Gear VR.
According to a report from ZDNet, their goal is to commercialize VR applications by 2018 for hospitals, dementia centers and schools, and then for consumers.
The FNI is responsible for the development of the application, targeting the Gear VR headset and using medical data obtained from the Gangnam Severance Hospital. The ZDNet report believes that the application will focus on the prevention of suicidal cognitive behavioral therapy, including the use of Samsung's artificial intelligence assistant Bixby's psychological assessment tools.
In addition to Gear VR and Bixby, diagnostic tools will also get data from the Gear S3 Smart Watch and S Health app.
Samsung hopes that these mobile partners will better demonstrate Gear VR's mobile convenience.
In addition, Samsung has also developed an application in collaboration with Start VR, a VR studio in Sydney, Australia, to help alleviate the pressure of cancer for chemotherapy.
