Children picky eaters are common, but if they continue into adulthood they develop into mental illnesses and can seriously endanger health, social and marriage.
Is picky eating just a child's fault? Some adults also have serious problems with picky eaters. They know that a balanced diet is good for their health. They also know that their preferred diet may be high in oil and fat, and there is no religious or medical reason to eat only one or two kinds of food. The reason they refuse food may be because of the type of food, such as not eating greens and vegetables; or they may not like a particular color, such as hate red food; or they may not accept foods of a certain character, such as paste. This serious picky eater is actually a mental illness and the term is called Selective Eating Disorder. If you want to fully intake enough nutrients, you must start from the "heart."
Case1. Girl eating only instant noodles
British 18-year-old girl Redman is a selective eating disorder. She only eats instant noodles and does not eat any vegetables and fruits. In order to survive, occasionally eat a small amount of potatoes and chicken. Even instant noodles, she only eats instant noodles with a specific brand of chicken soup. In order to meet her unique tastes, her mother bought her instant noodles for her bags for almost every purchase. Other instant noodles may have vegetables but she could not accept it.
Redman fell in love with this food because he saw his brother eating instant noodles when he was 5 years old. But it was really crazy for it to be after an 8-year-old food poisoning. Food poisoning caused her to fear vegetables and fruits. Every time she tried to eat vegetables and fruits, she panicked, sweated and disgusted. Since then, this instant noodle is almost her only source of nutrition. In one year, she will eat 5 km long noodles.
Severe picky eaters have made Redman malnourished. Her physical health is similar to that of an 80-year-old lady who once led doctors to think that she had leukemia.
Case2. Taste like children's old man
The 63-year-old grandfather Klaus is also a "senior" selective eating disorder. He described his favorite diet as "a four-year-old child's dream diet." He loves peanut butter, shortbread, cheese sandwiches, chocolate milk, and other foods for him like "a disgusting thing." Because of his picky-food behavior, he was unable to do his favorite job, or even lost two marriages. Many social occasions could not participate, but he still "obsessed." The disliked food is not just "bad taste" for patients like Klaus, but is classified by him as a category of dangerous food. It doesn't matter if you smell the food enough to make him say " Do not". The “safe food” is often the food that people with selective eating disorders like when they were young. These foods are usually high-fat, high-fat chocolate candy or fried foods. Long-term single intake is very harmful to health. It is an old man like Claus.
Where do serious picky eaters come from?
What makes people with selective eating disorders insist on eating a limited number of foods at the expense of health, social and happiness?
● Unpleasant experiences in early years Researchers at the Duke University's Center for Eating Disorders explained that these patients generally suffered from diet-related illnesses such as food poisoning, stomach problems, and acid reflux. They associate illness with some foods, so they fear from inside to try foods that they are not familiar with, and are limited to eating their favorite foods.
● Other mental illnesses In addition to unpleasant eating experiences in the early years, some other mental illnesses may also lead to selective eating disorders. For example, children with obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism often have selective eating disorders and may continue into adulthood. These people prefer high-calorie foods such as nuts or pasta. This eating habit is very likely to make them suffer from diabetes or other chronic diseases related to obesity. In addition, people with anxiety disorders are also prone to selective eating disorders. Whether it concerns the food itself or the fear or fear of weight gain, it can cause people to be very picky.
Picky eaters, can it be good?
If picky eaters have endangered the health of patients with selective eating disorders, and even rely on catheters to feed, they need to seek the help of a professional psychologist. However, for children who have just had partial eclipse (selective eating disorders are mostly from childhood), they may try to adjust their eating behavior at home to avoid developing a real disease.
● The first step is to record their usual eating habits and their knowledge of food without trying to change them.
● Step 2 rewards them with a list of new foods that they are willing to try. These foods may not be the same as their preferred food or they may be different in cooking methods, but they are only willing to try. When they successfully eat these new foods, they are rewarded with gifts.
● Step 3 relax lets them relax themselves in front of "terrible" food. You can put these foods into a story. The protagonists can be their favorite characters (real people or fictional characters can be), and the plot should let them feel relaxed. Then before they eat these foods, tell them the story and help them relax and try new foods.
● Step 4 Look back and watch their reactions carefully to see what kind of story will be the best to relax, then make adjustments and slowly let them try more and more new foods.
