Today is the 25th World Mental Health Day. The theme is “mental health, social harmony”. The Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission reported the fourth mental epidemiological investigation in our province. The prevalence of mental disorders in the population over 18 years old in our province was 17.56%. The total prevalence rate in the past 10 years has not changed significantly. However, the prevalence of organic mental disorders such as Alzheimer's disease has increased significantly, which is related to an aging population and increased social pressure.
Zuo Yi, deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Health Planning Commission, introduced the province’s fourth epidemiological survey of mental disorders and collected 49 counties (cities, districts) and 96 streets (townships) across the province, completing an effective investigation of 27,463 people. A total of 4202 persons with various mental disorders were identified. After the standardization, the prevalence of mental disorders in the population over 18 years old was 17.56 percent, 4.76 percent of their central obstacles, 4.3 percent of anxiety disorders, and 100 percent of substance use disorders. Of the 5.43, 1.05 percent of psychotic disorders (of which the prevalence of schizophrenia was 0.84 percent), 1.73 percent of organic mental disorders, and 0.27 percent of other mental disorders. Compared with the historical data, the overall prevalence of mental disorders in the population did not change significantly, but the prevalence of organic mental disorders such as Alzheimer's disease increased significantly.
“Analyzing the results of out-of-control adjustments, the public has low awareness of common mental disorders such as anxiety and depression, and psychological and behavioral problems. Social prejudice and discrimination are widespread. There are too many medical problems and fewer scientific visits.” Zuo Yi said: Efforts should be made to improve the capacity of grass-roots mental health services and strive to provide more than one psychiatrist in each township (street) in the province by 2018. By 2020, each primary health care institution will have a psychological counseling room to provide different types of residents. Preliminary diagnosis and counseling services for mental disorders.
