On November 7, Zhejiang Zhoushan Power Transmission Company Ocean Power Transmission Technology Research Center, in conjunction with other enterprises, completed the first on-site water area test of underwater power robot (ROV). The trial of the sea area started from October 21, and systematically tested the functions of the underwater robot system and provided technical preparations for its formal application.

The marine test mainly carried out such tasks as retractable underwater vehicle system, surface navigation, underwater commissioning, underwater observation, underwater fixed navigation, underwater positioning and submarine cable route detection, which basically achieved the expected goal. Professional follow-up will be based on the test situation, optimize the underwater vehicle's power system, underwater positioning, submarine cable detection and other functions, through several tests, the final application of the robot to the submarine cable operation and maintenance of the actual work.

Research and development of underwater robots is an important sub-project of Zhoushan Power Supply Company "Research on Key Technologies of Marine Power Transmission". The project is carried out under the current situation that domestic submarine cable operation and maintenance can only rely on water surface monitoring and other auxiliary means and can not directly obtain submarine cable operational environment information. Underwater robots developed by the project can carry instruments and equipment to infiltrate the seafloor for inspection of submarine cables and locating fault points. The underwater robot applied to the operation and maintenance of submarine cable can not only replace the previous submarine operation mode, but also solve the problem of short manual operation time and high safety risk. On the other hand, it also broke through the submarine cable inspection in the deep water area The bottleneck can greatly improve the intelligence level of submarine cable inspection and seize up the technical gaps in the operation and maintenance of submarine cable in our country.
